The life of a Freelance Medical Artist, Commercial Artist and Specialist Illustrator revolves around commissions, either trying to find a commission, negotiating an agreement, writing licenses, trying to understand and then design and illustrate an idea, or to interpret a procedure or scribbled drawing. Sometimes it involves going off to gather reference; at meetings, in theatre (medical or veterinary) or in libraries and laboratories. Mostly it appears seemless…and mostly its fun. This is how I make a living and like many of my colleagues, it is why you will often find me working into the small hours of the night as I endeavour to meet my deadlines…and I always do! Don’t expect then to get hold of me first thing in the morning…….
